Four sports, nine wards: what the Mayor's Cup 2026 is all about Mayor's Cup

If you have heard people talking about the Mayor's Cup and wondered what it is, here is the short version: it is a community championship in which the wards and community groups of Mukono Municipality compete in four sports, organised by Mukono Municipal Council.

The four sports

  • Football The people's game, played every Friday of the season.
  • Netball Fast passing, tight defence and big shooting.
  • Volleyball Serve, set and spike in a game of rhythm and teamwork.
  • Kho Kho A thrilling chase-and-dodge game that is winning new fans.

Why it exists

The Cup is built on four ideas: unity, talent, health and development. It brings the wards together, gives local players a stage to be noticed, supports athletes with healthcare through partner FHNS, and lets the municipality share its programmes and development projects with the community.

Who runs it

The Organising Committee is chaired by Hon. Fiibi Faith Babirye, the Deputy Mayor. The Municipal Sports Officer, Mr. Ssemuhara Gerald Cyrus, coordinates the sports side, with committees for each sport planning behind the scenes.

Unity, talent, health, development: the Mayor's Cup in four words.

The season opens on Friday 6 November 2026 and runs every Friday until 1 January 2027. Follow the news page, the fixtures and the results all season.
