Football was not the only sport planning ahead. Representatives of Kho Kho and netball held their own planning meeting in the Mayor's Boardroom, seated around the table in the lead-up to the Mayor's Cup 2026. Among the participants were members wearing Khokho Uganda shirts, a sign that Kho Kho has a proper place in the municipal championship.
Two sports, one boardroom
Netball and Kho Kho are very different games. Netball is played seven-a-side with quick passing and sharp footwork. Kho Kho is a fast chase-and-dodge game of South Asian origin that rewards speed, agility and teamwork. Both reward discipline and fitness, and both are fast becoming favourites at community level.
Why the planning matters
Bringing the sports into the same room means shared venues, fair scheduling and a common message to the wards: whichever sport your community plays, it has a place in the Mayor's Cup.
- Netball Seven players a side, a fast-moving favourite.
- Kho Kho Chase, dodge and tag at full speed.
- Both Open to wards and community groups of Mukono Municipality.
Four sports, nine wards, one Mayor's Cup.
