Nine wards, one cup: Mukono's stakeholders pack the Mayor's Boardroom Mayor's Cup

There was hardly a spare chair in the Mayor's Boardroom of Mukono Municipal Council on 20th October 2026. Team managers, players, coaches, ward and division coordinators, journalists and other stakeholders from the municipality's nine wards had come for one reason: to get the Mayor's Cup 2026 ready for kick-off.

Everyone around one table

The engagement was designed to do more than announce a tournament. It brought the people who will make the Cup happen into one room, so that preparations could be discussed openly and collaboration between the wards, the divisions, the Sports Office and the media could be strengthened before the first whistle.

For team managers and coaches it was a chance to hear first-hand how the championship will run. For coordinators it was a chance to rally their wards. For the journalists present, it was the start of a season of stories.

What the wards are signing up for

  • Four sports Football, netball, volleyball and Kho Kho under one banner.
  • Nine wards Every ward of Mukono Municipality, together with community groups, is invited to field teams.
  • One season Match days every Friday from 6 November 2026 until 1 January 2027.
When nine wards sit around one table, a tournament stops being an event and becomes a community project.

The road ahead

With the wards on board, partners coming forward and committees already planning behind the scenes, the Mayor's Cup 2026 is moving from idea to reality. Team managers are encouraged to complete their registrations early so that every ward is ready when the season opens on Friday 6 November.
