Addressing stakeholders in the Mayor's Boardroom, the Chairperson of the Organising Committee, Hon. Fiibi Faith Babirye, who is also the Deputy Mayor of Mukono Municipality, began with thanks.
Thank you, Mukono
She appreciated the participants for the overwhelming response and the active involvement they have shown since preparations began, noting that a tournament of this size depends on the energy of the people around it.
More than a tournament
The Mayor's Cup, she noted, presents an opportunity for the Mayor to communicate government programmes and municipal development projects to the community, using the pull of sport to reach people where they gather.
Finding the next generation
The tournament also has a second purpose: identifying, nurturing and promoting local sporting talent, so that gifted players from the wards are seen and supported.
- Unity Nine wards and community groups under one banner.
- Talent Local players identified, nurtured and promoted.
- Development Municipal programmes brought closer to the people.
- Health Healthcare and check-ups for players through partner FHNS.
Her message was simple: take part fully, and treat the Mayor's Cup as your own.
